Zimbabwe ambassador meets Zimbabwean teachers serving in Nyagatare

Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Prof. Charity Manyeruke, has met with Zimbabwean teachers serving in Nyagatare District, during a visit aimed at engaging educators from her country and recognizing their contribution to Rwanda’s education sector.

Manyeruke visited GS Matimba, where she was received by Nyagatare District Mayor Kakooza Henry. During the visit, she met Zimbabwean teachers who have been working in Rwanda for the past two years.

The ambassador expressed appreciation for the teachers’ contribution to Rwanda’s education system and encouraged them to continue playing an active role in improving the quality of education.

She also urged the educators to uphold integrity, professionalism and commitment in carrying out their duties, emphasizing the important role teachers play in nurturing and preparing the next generation.

Currently, 20 Zimbabwean teachers are serving in Nyagatare District, teaching various subjects in primary and secondary schools.

Their deployment is part of a broader bilateral cooperation programme between Rwanda and Zimbabwe that has brought experienced Zimbabwean educators into Rwandan schools.

The teachers are supporting learning in schools across the country under the ongoing cooperation programme between the two countries. The initiative allows Rwanda to benefit from experienced educators while creating opportunities for professional exchange between Zimbabwean and Rwandan teachers.

Rwanda’s education sector received  boost with the arrival of 143 Zimbabwean teachers in Kigali on December 21, 2025, bringing the total number of Zimbabwean educators working in Rwanda to about 300.

Educators are placed across basic education, Teacher Training Centres (TTC), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools, polytechnics, and the University of Rwanda (including health sciences).
