Two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group targeted Aden International Airport in southern Yemen early Wednesday, said local security authorities.

Aden's Security Department said no casualties had been reported.

The situation was stable now, it said, adding that the security forces were at the “highest level of readiness.”

Local Yemeni outlets earlier published footage showing explosions during the attack.

The attack comes amid escalating fighting as Yemeni government forces press ahead with Operation Dawn of Yemen.

On Tuesday, the Yemeni army said around 100 Houthi fighters were killed and 150 others wounded in Monday’s operations across Taiz as part of the operation, while government forces also reported retaking several strategic mountain positions in the province.

Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi said Monday the operation aims to retake the capital Sanaa and restore state institutions from Houthi control.

The latest escalation is among the most significant rounds of fighting in Yemen since a UN-brokered truce in April 2022 ushered in a period of relative calm.

Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several provinces in 2014, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government.
