Rwanda Premier League Approves Rwf1.28 Billion Budget for 2026/27 BK Pro League

The Rwanda Premier League has approved a budget of Rwf1.28 billion for the 2026/27 BK Pro League season, while introducing new regulations affecting Sudanese clubs participating in the competition.

The decisions were reached during an ordinary Rwanda Premier League meeting held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, bringing together representatives of all 16 clubs set to compete in the upcoming season.

According to the approved budget, the league will operate with Rwf1,280,055,000, which will also cover various awards for players who perform outstandingly during matches and throughout the season.

Sudanese clubs face foreign-player limit

The meeting also approved new restrictions on the number of foreign players Sudanese clubs can field.

For the 2026/27 season, Al Hilal SC and Al Merrikh SC will participate in the Rwanda Premier League. Each club will be allowed to register a maximum of eight foreign players on a match sheet, while no more than six non-Sudanese players may be on the pitch at the same time.

Despite the restrictions, Sudanese players will be eligible for individual league awards on the same basis as players from Rwandan clubs. These awards will include Player of the Match and Player of the Year, among others.

The Rwanda Premier League also agreed on how the championship title will be handled if a Sudanese club finishes at the top of the overall standings.

Should a Sudanese team finish first, it will receive an Honorary Trophy, while the BK Pro League Champions trophy will go to the highest-ranked Rwandan club.

This arrangement distinguishes between the overall competition standings and the championship reserved for Rwanda's domestic clubs.

In the previous season, Al Hilal SC won the Honorary Trophy, while APR FC claimed the BK Pro League championship among Rwandan clubs.
