Rwanda international Joy-Lance Mickels scored and provided an assist as Sabah FK beat AGF 4-0 to reach the UEFA Champions League final qualifying round.
Rwanda international Joy-Lance Mickels played a decisive role as Sabah FK advanced to the final qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League after a commanding 4-0 victory over Denmark’s AGF.
Mickels provided the assist for Sabah’s opening goal before scoring the third in the 78th minute as the Azerbaijani side overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit to advance 5-2 on aggregate.
The victory keeps Sabah’s Champions League campaign alive after the club previously eliminated Finland’s KuPS in the second qualifying round, with Mickels also scoring in that tie.
Sabah will now face Israeli champions Hapoel Be’er Sheva in the final qualifying round, with the first leg scheduled for August 19 and the return leg on August 25.
Sabah must win the two-legged tie to reach the Champions League league phase. If eliminated, the club will continue its European campaign in the UEFA Europa League.
Mickels’ latest performance further underlines his growing importance to Sabah as the club pushes for a place in Europe’s premier club competition.
