Erdoğan and Kagame Agree to Strengthen Military Cooperation

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with Rwandan President Paul Kagame, during which the two leaders discussed bilateral relations, economic cooperation and efforts to promote lasting peace in the Great Lakes region.

According to reports published by Daily Sabah, Erdoğan expressed satisfaction with the growing trade and investment relationship between Türkiye and Rwanda. He said Ankara and Kigali would continue strengthening cooperation across a range of sectors.

The discussions also reportedly included cooperation in the defence industry, with the two countries exploring opportunities to expand collaboration in the production and supply of military equipment.

Regional security was another key issue raised during the conversation. Erdoğan and Kagame discussed developments in the Great Lakes region, including tensions between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Erdoğan reportedly welcomed efforts aimed at reducing tensions and advancing diplomatic initiatives to resolve the conflict. He also reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for efforts seeking a peaceful and sustainable solution to the crisis.
